One thing about sports photography is you can’t control the poses or expressions of the athletes. You simply capture the action as best you can, trying to get the peak action whenever possible, and take the rest as it comes. This can make for some pretty funny, and sometimes pretty awkward, images. Some athletes look … Continue reading »

Something Different – Part II
As with my last post of this title, I’m still looking for ways to break the mould of mediocrity that is sports portraits. The same-old-same-old just won’t do any more. Of course, there’s always the problem of finding inspiration. Making sure you have the necessary equipment (although in most cases you really don’t need anything … Continue reading »
Something Different
As a parent, and especially as a photographer, I’m tired of seeing the same team pictures year after year after year. Standard group shot. Standard player portrait in a standard player pose. Boring. It was time to shake things up a little bit. It was time to try something different.

Goalies
(I originally posted this on my Google+ profile but thought I would post it here as well. I apologize to anyone who sees it twice. I’ve included two more images (combined photos from two separate posts and added a third). I think I might expand on this in the future and the blog, perhaps, is … Continue reading »
If You Don’t Like the Weather
There’s an old saying in the Maritimes: “If you don’t like the weather, wait five minutes.” Some think it’s a bit of an exaggeration – the weather simply can’t change that quickly or that often. Unfortunately, those who would dismiss the adage as an old wive’s tale just might find themselves on the losing side … Continue reading »
The Day I Didn’t Meet Darren Carroll
Did I ever mention that I’m rather shy and reserved? Did I ever mention that I’m uncomfortable in unfamiliar settings or when surrounded by unfamiliar people? I think I did. Did I ever mention that I’m a cynic? Probably not, but I am. Not cynical in the sense that I never believe anything good will … Continue reading »
