The Debate

The Debate

It seems like photographers are always debating something: Canon or Nikon; protective filters or not; straight out of camera or heavily post-processed; print or web; digital or film. Whatever. I sometimes think they argue simply for the satisfaction of hearing their own voices. One of the current debates surrounds the use of iPhone and other … Continue reading »

This will take a little while longer

I’m still plugging away, editing images from two fairly large photo shoots. One was shot in December, the other earlier this month. I wish both were completed by now, but it’s going to take a little while longer. That’s because I review each and every image from a shoot, and all those selected for upload … Continue reading »

Something Different – Part II

Something Different – Part II

As with my last post of this title, I’m still looking for ways to break the mould of mediocrity that is sports portraits. The same-old-same-old just won’t do any more. Of course, there’s always the problem of finding inspiration. Making sure you have the necessary equipment (although in most cases you really don’t need anything … Continue reading »

Something Different

Something Different

As a parent, and especially as a photographer, I’m tired of seeing the same team pictures year after year after year. Standard group shot. Standard player portrait in a standard player pose. Boring. It was time to shake things up a little bit. It was time to try something different.

Goalies

Goalies

(I originally posted this on my Google+ profile but thought I would post it here as well. I apologize to anyone who sees it twice. I’ve included two more images (combined photos from two separate posts and added a third). I think I might expand on this in the future and the blog, perhaps, is … Continue reading »

Don’t Just Pick Up The Camera

If you had the opportunity to question many of the top professional photographers, and you could ask them only one thing about their work, you would probably ask what, in their opinion, was the key to their success. And I’m fairly confident that each and every one of them, regardless of whether they are technical … Continue reading »

Chaos With Order, Order With Chaos

Chaos With Order, Order With Chaos

I never seemed to be successful at photographing still-life and detail shots. I tried on a number of occasions but it just never worked. It got to the point where I gave up trying. I wouldn’t even look for opportunities and, if I somehow stumbled across one inadvertently, I’d quickly shake the thought from my … Continue reading »

The Boring Industrial Series

The Boring Industrial Series

I don’t like my job. If you know me, that’s a well-known fact. But the purpose of this post isn’t really to complain about my present employment, or even to dwell on any of the negative aspects of it. Instead, it’s a bit of a follow-up to an earlier post of mine. Like many photographers/artists, … Continue reading »

Searching

I’ve had trouble finding inspiration of late. My new iPhone, along with some of the apps I’ve downloaded for it, have given me a few new tools and a few different outlets for expression. Regardless, I still find myself struggling for both inspiration and motivation. This long holiday weekend is supposed to be both a … Continue reading »

TED Talks Art and Creativity

I was first introduced to TED Talks a little over a year ago. The speakers come from many different walks of life. Some are famous, and some may be quite unfamiliar. The topics, too, are quite varied and range from business to science to technology to much, much more. There seems to be something for … Continue reading »
